EXPERIENCE WITH THE OPERATION AND RESULTS OF MEASUREMENTS OF WATTAGE AND GEARING CURRENTS FOR DIFFERENT TYPES OF GEAR AND GEARLESS ENGINES

The measurement was carried out on seven elevators. The results are shown in the attached table. These are the values measured while the elevator was in use. Values for starting and braking are shown in the accompanying charts. Detailed measurement reports are available from Helgos s.r.o. Ústí nad Labem and Elektropohony Frenštát pod Radhoštěm

COMMENTS ON INDIVIDUAL MEASUREMENTS:

U1– Measurement was carried out on a Czech-produced gearless machine with a load capacity of 320kg in masonery modernized with the original cage and counterweight. This measurement was carried out in order to investigate the effect of a lighter counterweight (80kg lighter) on power input values while driving up and down.

U2 – Measurement was performed on the gearless machine BVS W30DF with a load capacity of 400kg. A modernized elevator has a capacity of 320kg with a balanced counterweight. The values measured on this machine are among the best.

U3 – Measurement was carried out on gearless machine with a modernized elevator load of 320kg. In this case the counterweight is approximately 25kg lighter. Measured values are good.

U4 – Measurement was performed on the original gear engine TRANSPORTA 2.5kW of an elevator with a capacity of 250kg. This elevator has a new switchboard with a microprocessor and the frequency converter YASKAWA. The results show that savings in this case are in the starting current which is three times smaller than with direct starting. This increases the comfort of the ride and stopping accuracy.

U5 – Measurement was performed on the gear engine BOV 320kg on a modernized elevator with 7.5 kW frequency converters and a drum machine BOV in the engine room above the shaft.

U6 – Measurement was performed on a Spanish lift engine installed on a modernized elevator with a capacity of 320kg. This Spanish engine is the only one which does not have manual brake release. This is done by UPS which, in the case of a power outage, moves the elevator to the nearest floor and opens the door. The weight of this engine is 110kg.

U7 – Measurement was performed on the gear engine TRANSPORTA 2.5kW on a lift with a capacity of 250kg with the original VRN switchboard. The starting current is 25A. Measured values are in the table. Please note the value of ride with a balanced cab which is quite high.

Power input of all of the switchboards was measured in an idle state, i.e. while the elevator was stationary. The lowest value measurement was no. 7 – VRN switchboard – 17W. Other measured values were around 36W. Note that new switchboards are fitted with microprocessors with the frequency converter Yaskawa.

Cabs of modernized lifts with gearless engines are weighted by the weight with analog output which supplies information about cab load into the converter after selecting the drive. The converter develops the necessary torque so that the start is smooth both with an empty or fully-loaded cab.

Gearless engines, in addition to providing provable energy savings,
are characterized by other significant advantages, especially:
